notes from the garden

Creating Memorable Outdoor Moments

June 19th, 2009

Long summer days are meant for spending time outdoors.  Many of our favorite summer memories were made outside.  Remember catching your first glimpse of a firefly, chasing him down in the garden to let him glow in captivity,  or enjoying a lazy afternoon, swinging in the hammock under the shade of the Linden tree, whose pleasant fragrance has now faded.  Our memories of summer are often accentuated by the scenery around us.

Though a garden does not necessarily make our outdoor memories, it is the setting in which those memories take place.  The garden will set the tone for the way we use our outdoor spaces, and how we spend our time outdoors. Gardens should draw us outdoors, and be a peaceful setting for us to spend time.  They should not be a reminder of the work which needs to be done, or the weeds which need to be pulled.

Gardens should be a place were families gather and play, and make memories.  Does your garden inspire you to spend time outdoors?  Does it encourage you to gather with family?  What memories will you make in your garden this year?  Let your garden be the  backdrop for a summer filled with memorable outdoor moments.
