The Scoop on Leaf Compost | Kinghorn Gardens

Leaf Compost

What is it?

Leaf compost is a mulch alternative or supplement made up of decomposed leaves.

Why use it?

Mulching your garden with leaf compost mimics the natural ecological system of a leaf-covered forest floor. The speedy decomposition of finely shredded plant material quickly adds nutrients to the soil to support robust plant communities. Last season’s foliage becomes this seasons’ feast. Leaf compost aids in building soil structure while still preforming the tasks of mulch – insulation and weed control. By using nature as a roadmap, we can spend less resources on mulch and more on giving our plants the jump start they need with a great soil structure and extra nutrients.
