Project Harmony Children’s Garden

Project Year: 2014  |  Omaha, Nebraska

A Place for Healing

We set out with the goal to create a garden where children can retreat to restore their spirit. The centerpiece of the garden is a butterfly path. Therapists often use the imagery of a butterfly’s metamorphosis as a tool to show kids that they can come out of situations more bright and beautiful than ever before. We want the children to feel like they have some control in the moment by providing different garden settings. The garden will be full of fun and interactive plants that will create safe sensory experiences. A child can also retreat to the garden for a moment of solitude beneath the leaf-shaped pergola. A single wooden swing will hang under the pergola for a playful way to connect.
