Did you grab a meal outside yesterday for International Picnic Day? Don’t worry I forgot too. Thankfully summer is just getting into full swing so there will be plenty of time to spread out a blanket and brown bag it. So in the spirit of outdoor eating, here is a short and sweet list of Seven Summery Treats best enjoyed outdoors.
1. Cherries – Two words: cherry pits. Eating these petite fruits outside should almost be required. I have yet to figure out a classy way to eat a cherry and discard the pit; if you come across one, do let me know. Until then watch your step around the patio, and don’t sit between me and the grass.
2. Pink Lemonade Cake – Tastes just like summer. How can you eat summer and not sit outside?
3. S’mores – This is a given. I mean, who eats s’mores in the house? That has to be a fire hazard, or a mess hazard at the very least. To up your s’mores game next time you’re around the fire – or grill at my house – swap your Hershey’s for your favorite candy bar instead. KitKat, Reese’s Peanut Buttercups, and smashed Snickers are worth a try.
4. Cucumber salad – Even if the cucumbers didn’t come from your own garden you can pretend that they did.
5. Sonic Strawberry Limeade – Tastes especially delightful under the sunshine between the hours of 2 and 4pm (1/2 off for Happy Hour).
6. Bruschetta – Is there anything more posh than toasted french bread with heirloom tomatoes, basil, and garlic before dinner on the patio? The answer is no. Try it sometime. Actually try it tonight. Your Thursday could probably use a pinch of suave. Ree Drummond the Pioneer Woman does it best – possibly life changing.
7. Peaches – Another oh so juicy fruit best enjoyed outdoors. Slightly messy but totally worth it. Have a mobile peach for breakfast on a walk around the neighborhood, is there a better way to start a June morning?
Well now I’m hungry and I’m sure you are too… I hope you enjoyed our outdoor treat suggestions and I expect you to treat yourself to one this week! I’d go with a KitKat s’more, or a slice of Pink Lemonade Cake, or a handful of cherries, or fresh cucumber salad OR you could make a week of it and knock one off the list everyday.
Yes that’s it! A week of Seven Summery Treats – you’ve been challenged.
