Gal Behind the Garden: Anne Houser | Kinghorn Gardens

Anne

Anne Houser, Horticultural Designer

Joined the team in March of 2001

Favorite gardening quote:

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food and medicine for the soul.” Luther Burbank

On the job:

My day to day job all comes down to creating gardens that make our clients happy. From a garden consult, a single tree planting, to a master plan installation my end goal is to create a garden that our clients can enjoy with their friends and families.

Garden Guru from:

University of Nebraska Lincoln, Bachelor of Science in Horticulture with a Landscape Design emphasis and a Landscape Architecture Minor.

Favorite plant:

I love Oakleaf Hydrangea. He can be little rough around the edges, but I love the leaf texture, the flower, the fall color, the exfoliating bark and the statuesque presence it provides in the garden.

What does the purple polo mean to you?

Pride, pride in who we are and what we do here at Kinghorn Gardens. Pride in my work family and knowing we will all do what we can to help each other out. Pride in knowing we create unique gardens.

Where did you get your green thumb?

From my dad. He has always been a fan of nature. I specifically remember as a young girl, planting a tiny Baby’s Breath with him and being amazed at how much it grew and how good it smelled. Plants are so cool!

Your outdoor space:

Our garden is in early stages of development. We bought a new (to us) home last year. The yard has 8 mature trees and we planted an additional 6 trees. We have the bones of the garden started so next year is going to be the year of perennials! We made sure to leave plenty of room for the kids and the dog to romp.

Favorite food:

A fresh from the garden cucumber and tomato sandwich with just a touch of mayo and salt.

Hobbies:

Having almost 4 year old twins, a loving hubby and a dog who gets walked twice a day pretty much takes up all of my spare time. I couldn’t ask for a better hobby than my family.

Celebrity garden crush:

Most any garden designed by Piet Oudolf.

Gotta-Have-It gardening tool:

Short square-nosed shovel

 At work warm and fuzzy:

A satisfied client.

 Least favorite garden critter?

SNAKES!!
