Heavy Lifting
While you commuted to and from work, the Purple Polo crew spent five days high above the buzz of traffic renovating two greenroofs on West Dodge Road. Greenroofs are building rooftops covered with plant material usually on top of waterproofing membrane. They benefit the building and its occupants by soaking up rainwater, insulating the roof and providing a more beautiful view than the typical tar rooftop. This greenroof is overlooked by floor to ceiling window walls in a break out meeting area and has a patio where employees can get out and enjoy the roof-scape design up close while overlooking the flat Nebraska landscape.

On day one, four stories up, the crew began by tearing out the existing roof cover and took a ridiculous number of elevator rides from top to bottom with wheelbarrows full of gravel and dirt. After the space was cleared, it was time for the real heavy lifting. Day two started with help from Midwest Crane lifting six tons of white rock forty feet in the air and delicately placing the 1.5 ton super sacks within inches of their final destinations. Then the team got to work prepping the trays for the eight different varieties of sedum that made up the 3,800 plants to be installed on both now very green, greenroofs. Day three, four, and five were full of more prep and planting, as well as spreading out the thirteen tons of white rock to border the planting trays which is no small task.

At the end of the week all of the time spent pre-planning paid off with a smooth running installation. Our crew made an incredible transformation to a once barren rooftop in just five days and as you can see, it was quite the process.
