Adding a fountain to a landscaped backyard provides some design challenges. Ideally, when you are finished it will seem as though the new addition was a part of the original plan. Through detailed planning and a solid understanding of the established home and landscape design, Nate Huse tackled the project with the aid of some Purple Polo muscle and design assistance from Zack Fergus.

The main idea was to embellish an already relaxing patio with the beautiful sound of a tiered water feature. To keep with the original design, the team used sawn limestone instead of typical boulders. This made construction a bit more challenging but totally worth it! The completed fountain fits with the landscape and home style perfectly, finding it’s own sense of place in this relaxing patio escape.

With the addition of shade loving plant material, including three different types of chartreuse plants to brighten the dark shadows without flowers, the new fountain is well on its way to becoming a new favorite feature in the landscape. In just a few seasons when the plantings are at full growth, it will take a keen eye to notice this wasn’t apart of the original install.

Every fountain installation is different and with each one you need to learn, build, and decide on things as you go. Many factors will change the plan on paper to something that in the end, fits the landscape perfectly.
