Signature Tree: Acer ginnala ‘Red November’ | Kinghorn Gardens

Our first Signature Tree of 2015 is an Acer ginnala ‘Red November’ or an Amur Maple ‘Red November’ for those less versed in binomial nomenclature. As a Signature Tree this autumnal head-turner is more like a living landscape solution than a simple tree in the yard. Below you will find the run down on Mr. Red November, be prepared to fall in love with your new favorite maple.

Acer Ginnala

  • Shape: Low branch, multi-stemmed
  • Height: 18-24′ great for smaller urban spaces
  • Leaf: Bright green with fine texture
  • Flower: Fragrant yellowish white flower that leaf out early in March
  • Exposure: Sun to part shade
  • Fall Color: Bright red fall color shows up later than typical seedlings

Signature Tree Stats

  • Hardy – able to adapt to a variety of growing conditions, can tolerate shade
  • Stunning red seasonal color – shows up in late fall, extending the life of your fall palate while other leaves fade to brown
  • Scale – perfect height and spread for smaller spaces; a signature tree for a signature space, a front entry or patio perhaps?
  • Living art – an almost sculptural bare form in winter
  • Longevity – with early leaf out in spring, late fall color, and great winter form this tree has a lot to offer all year long
