Our second theme for Wintergreens 2014 is Vintage Flair. Vintage seems to always be in style, the only thing that really fluctuates is the era that is considered retro. Nineties vintage… do you mean tulip skirts and high collars of the 1890s or do you mean shell necklaces and butterfly clips of the 1990s? This customization is what makes this theme so popular and perfect for the holidays. Watch A Christmas Story and you will be sufficiently inspired.

After throwing around the idea of Vintage Flair, our design team landed on these words to help the theme grow:

Upcycled, hedge apples, repurposed, local, clove oranges, nostalgic, tinsel, frosted fruit, candles, ribbon candy, paper chains, spruce tops, candy canes, large bulbs, popcorn strings and wooly mittens.

With all this great inspiration flowing around, we ended up with two sketches to accompany this theme idea. Nate dreamt up a vintage crate full of greenery and other goodies from his collection of old oddities, while Anne went the glitzy, sentimental route with a wreath inspired by her Grandma’s brooch.

For our theme videos Nate turned his Vintage Box sketch into an adorable sled arrangement, perfect for the hearth or front door.

And that’s the best part about this theme, it’s very easy to make your own Vintage Flair. Adding a few of your family’s vintage pieces to some cut greens and sugar cones create perfect, one of a kind arrangements to celebrate the holidays in a personalized way.
