We’re back to writing about one of the most important functions a landscape or garden can offer and that is Protection. Our posting for the week presents a wonderful design solution that offers such a protective place only steps away from your back door.
For this protection design solution, there was one significant on site plant that we didn’t want to disturb, a very unique and mature White Pine. So in this instance, stone steps were casually tucked in beneath the Pine and a sunken space was created along with a wall which doubles as seating. A fire pit becomes the central attraction, and the formed out space all works in context with the surroundings.
By maximizing the existing plant materials, and tucking in other plants for homeowner and guests to mingle with, this space now extends the season both on the front end of spring and later into the fall.
Maximizing the sites inherent strengths, showing some creativity in designing a protective, sunken space, and reinforcing that plants contribute to our overall enjoyment at all stages and in all seasons contributes to this week’s Plant for That.
