We enjoy listening to the client and then bringing their dream to life through design. This garden installation, with the help of plants and materials, became a place for our clients to recall family memories and be surrounded by nature. Read more about how The Remembrance Garden took shape in an interview with designer Nate Huse.
A: “Our client had a large unmowed part of their property. She always wanted to be able to enjoy it in its natural state but needed some help and direction. This client LOVES nature and all that goes with it. She told me ever since she lost her son, red cardinal birds have appeared in special spots that remind her of him. Their family would explore National Parks and natural places regularly together. We discussed that this unused land could evoke happy emotions and family memories while still contributing to the Nebraska flora and fauna that have existed here for eons before us.”
A: “We created a path that winds through the Nebraska-like prairie as a way to get closer to nature. We created objects and spaces along the way to recreate the best memories they had with their son. The path makes one slow down, take a deep breath, and embrace the sight, sounds, and smells of the garden. It is a place for wildlife to feel welcome, even the smallest like bees and Monarchs.”
A: “I included hardy Nebraska perennials. There’s a grove of aspens to walk through that reminds the clients of their Colorado adventures. Along with some Ponderosa Pines, Sumac, Grey Dogwoods, Oaks, Hackberries…too many to list. It was important to the client to include plants that would do well and would require little care.”
A: “What’s fun for me to hear is how much they use this part of their property now and all the reminders of their son right there in their garden every time they walk that path. This family is incredible and deserves a place to get away from the every day….and I think that was achieved. I’m proud to be a part of this project and excited for our team to install the next phase of their garden.”
